You can find a compilation of visa related threads here. Might be of some help.

I would also be happy to help in case of any doubts/clarifications. I had given my VI in December end.

I have not applied for a blocked account till now. Can I take a VI appointment before opening a blocked account? I was going through the posts for German Visa in 2012 and 2013. People have done it at that time. Is it still possible to do this or I can take an appointment for VI only after my blocked account has opened? Please let me know.

ha256764 I am not sure. Theoretically, it should be possible to show just the funds from a bank as the source of funding. But the blocked account would be better. I think you may be able to show the blocked account at the time of the Visa stamping. Just confirm with the consulate to be on the safe side.
Btw get started with the blocked account process asap either ways.

ha256764 Talk to the German-consulate. As ritz90 said, we can't be sure and this depends on the regional consulate you come under. But I have also read that it is also possible to 'show them financial proof' by showing proof in your local bank or having "cheques/DD" worth of that amount. But I won't advise you to do so.

You're still have a lot of time if you're joining in April. You can just get it attested from German Consulate and send it to DB-Leipzig. Or if you're running out of time approach any DB branch in India and demand that you are in need of blocked account very soon.

Also, try to explain the problem that you're facing in getting the blocked account created to the 'staffs @ Consulate' because they are the people who are going to process your application. During VI, they shouldn't get the feel that you're being irresponsible if you just show up there for VI on the assumption that you can be safe. Getting to know that we can bypass blocked account thing is good but please make sure the folks at the consulate are okay with it.

Also, go through this thread.

Thank you for the information.

I called the German consulate bangalore today. For the proof of financial means, I can get a formal sponsorship letter from my sister in Germany instead of the blocked account as told by the representative from the consulate. This process won't take too much time in comparison to the blocked account. It is also mentioned on all the universities website.

Here is what I found on the university website: Any one of the following proof of financial means is required before applying for visa:

. Formal sponsorship letter from a sponsor living in Germany

. Blocked account

. Confirmation of Scholarship / Stipend

Yes, it is the fastest way. You can prepare the bank statements in a couple of days. We haven't mentioned this option, because I wasn't aware that you already have relatives residing in Germany. From ritz90 's experience, you would be safe(have ample time for Visa) as you come under Bengaluru consulate.

I have few more queries.

1. Do we have to take the attested xerox copies or the unattested copies will work?(as the original documents will be there)

2. Do we need to take the photos from the studio mentioned on the german consulate website? (for bangalore it is GK Vale)

3. The address on my passport is of Himachal Pradesh. But currently I am living in Bangalore. I have an address proof of Bangalore(Driving License). Will that be okay?

4. I am going to apply for the visa using the admit letter of X university. Suppose after getting the visa, I decide to go to Y university(in Germany only). That can be done, right?

5. Do we have to show the travel insurance?(as it is not mentioned in the checklist for student visa) If yes, then for how much amount?

I guess it is enough for the time being. Very Happy

1) Of what?

2) Yes, any GK Vale in Bangalore will do. Menton that it is for German visa.

3) I doubt that DL is a valid address proof. Do you have a rental agreement or payslips with your Bangalore address?

4) Technically, I think it can be done, but it causes a lot of confusion and complication (and consumes a lot of time for running around, once you come to Germany. I advise against it.

5) I took an insurance for 50000 US$ for 3 months, just to be safe, although I know of people taking it for 1 month. However I was never asked for it at any stage.

Fall '14 applicant. Energy/Resources.

1. I am talking about the attested copies of Academic Qualifications(10th,12th, B.tech marksheets, degree certificate), IELTS score and copy of passport.

2. Does the photograph has to be from GK Vale only or any other studio will be okay?

3. Yes, I have the payslips and the bank statements as well.

4. I have not got results from all the universities. If I wait for the results, then may be it will get late for the visa. What do you suggest?

5. Which one did you take?

1) Unattested is perfectly fine.

2) Look, as long as it meets the biometric specifications, any studio is fine. But the GK Vale people know the exact specifications of the photo and will give it to you without hassle. I suggest you take it from there.

3) Rental agreement (or a letter from your workplace) works best I think. Do browse other threads on edulix. People have had this situation before.

4) It's a tricky situation, I agree. But the thing is, I don't know of any person who has made this university change after entering Germany. When I visited the Foreigners' office here in my city, I read something about changing the university. But I can imagine it getting very complicated because you might need to get letters of de-registration from the city and university your visa is valid for (again, I have no idea about the exact process, but it is very possible, given how much Germans love bureaucracy). Imagine travelling up and down from Rostock to Munich for a couple of times! It can get time consuming and money consuming.

So unless the university gives out decisions very late, I suggest you wait.

5) Bajaj Allianz or Tata AIG should be fine (an insurance from any major company will generally work)

1. Unattested copies would do. Just keep all the originals in hand too. They might ask for originals of some of the documents.

2. The photograph has to conform to the specifications given in the consulate website. It doesn't matter from which studio you take them.

3. That should do although you need one that shows that you are a resident of Bangalore for the past 6 months.

4. One of my friends has done that. I don't know much about that. Its possible but not sure of the problems/risks involved.

5. I took Bajaj Allianz for $100000 for 1 month. It cost around 675. Just check on Insurance Pandit.

ritz90, could you possibly get some more information on this university change process? It will be very helpful for applicants.
